First Cricket World Cup Match in Ahmedabad: The Cricket World Cup is kicking off in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, today, with the first match scheduled between England and New Zealand. Security arrangements for the matches at Narendra Modi Stadium have been significantly enhanced to ensure the safety of players and spectators alike.

Comprehensive Security Measures in Place

Inside and outside the stadium, a three-tier security system has been put in place, with the Crime Branch entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining security. This stringent security protocol will remain in effect for all five matches scheduled in Ahmedabad. To preempt any threats, the Crime Branch will conduct surveillance using three drones in and around the stadium before each match.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Chautany Mandalik has revealed that there have been threats of potential terrorist attacks during the Ahmedabad matches. Consequently, security has been taken very seriously, resulting in a comprehensive three-tier security system inside and outside the stadium. Approximately 3,500 police personnel will be deployed for the matches.

During match days, certain roads in the city will be closed from 11 AM to 12 PM to ensure safe passage for spectators. Alternative routes will be available to reach Narendra Modi Stadium, such as Tapovan Circle via ONGC Four Roads and Power House via Four Roads to Prabodh Raval Circle.

Additionally, fans traveling from Kripa Residency, Sharan Status Char Rasta, or Bhatt Koteshwar Road will have designated routes.

The security team for these matches includes 11 DCPs, 16 ACPs, 34 PIs, 85 PSI, and 2,836 police personnel, along with 70 door frame metal detectors, 150 hand-held metal detectors, and 3 drones.

Spectators should note that they are only allowed to carry their mobile phones and wallets into the stadium; no other items will be permitted. However, women may also carry small purses. Outside food and drink items will not be allowed inside the stadium.

For those who have purchased tickets online, physical tickets must be collected. Ticket collection centers have been set up at Jalsa Banquet in Gandhinagar Highway Square Mall and Sardar Patel Stadium in Navrangpura.

On match days, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited has extended its metro train operation hours. Trains will run from 6:20 AM to 1:00 AM, and a special paper ticket priced at 50 rupees will be required.

It’s important to mention that there have been threats of displaying Khalistani flags and disrupting the matches in Ahmedabad. Prior to this, threats were also made during the August 15th and G-20 Summit events, resulting in arrests by the Delhi Police.
